This season, metallic décor is everywhere.  We wanted to create a table design that incorporated the glittery elegance of gold while maintaining a classic, sophisticated feel.

With gold and other metallic colors, it is easy to get carried away; without proper editing, events go from gorgeous to Vegas-gone-wrong.  By pairing it with classic black and white, the gold is able to be showcased without becoming too overwhelming.

We incorporated Spark Letterpress pieces that featured a refined black motif on crisp white paper. The centerpiece for the table combined dainty white orchids and calla lilies with black river rock and curly willow in varied height cylinder vases to create a subtle modern undertone, while maintaining the sumptuous elegance of the overall theme.  All of these elements were pulled together through the small gold details including flatware from the Museum of Visual Materials, candles, accent ribbons, and dessert wrappers. Chiavari chairs from Ideal Wedding and Events take the up another notch. Requiring no chair covers to look elegant their simple open structure added to the gold coloring with out overtaking the total design.

On the desert table elements were staggered at different heights to please the eye as well as the palate. A cake from The Cake Lady’s with just the right amount of black detail became the centerpiece. Cookies, truffles and pudding with custom chocolate topping round out the offerings. Mirrors, drapery and small pictures frames held the sumptuous treats as well as inform your guests of their choices.

When Leah and I sat down to design and coordinate this shoot I knew we needed to include very warm moody lighting with dark rich surrounding. At The Washington Pavilion we enlisted the staff to hang the fabulous chandeliers as well as BPM DJ Productions for the back lighting. I then used some additional lighting to match the rich decor and surroundings. Aneta and Rane were the perfect models with their height and long lines looking regal and elegant in the sophisticated poses chosen for them. For processing I chose saturated colors to bring out the gold and match the decor and surrounding.

Black and Gold South Dakota Wedding

The Washington Pavilion’s luxurious décor and beautiful architecture provided the perfect setting for this regal black and gold inspired wedding.  Dramatic lighting on the Great Hall Stage will wow guests and with a qualified staff adding accents like the chandeliers was a pleasant addition. The rich wood floors and thick black curtains

BPM DJ Productions one of our favorite DJ’s provided the background lighting that you see “feathered” across the back curtain was both subtle and powerful. This effect was created using two Chauvet Q-Spot 200 moving head light fixtures.  Each fixture is capable of projecting 7 different patterns and 10 different colors. For this photo shoot, an amber bubble pattern was selected to coordinate with the colors of the decor and add that something extra.

David Jones Fashions put together and loaned us the groom’s suit, shoes, belt, shirt, tie and cufflinks. David Jones even had this extra large suit on hand which is great because our model Rane is 6’8″ tall. The dark suit with the subtle pin stripes were perfectly formal and at the same time comfortable. The rich gold tie was thick and textured. It matched perfectly with the simple belt that had a hint of gold. David personally put this ensemble together and we think he did a great job.

Platinum Imagination
Inspired by vintage Hollywood glamour and the gilded gold and rich black wedding colors, I created the wedding hair and makeup look for this South Dakota bride. The hair shape was based upon a photo of Tyra Banks with a similar hairstyle.  I started with prepping the Bride’s hair with a variety of volumizing and soft hold sprays.  Using a combination of hot roller and curling iron, I preset and pin curled her hair. When her hair was cool, I took out all the pin curls did a combination of finger and brush combing. The beautiful shape of the waves and curls directed me to where I needed to pin her hair in to create the style I was looking for. Giving her a side bang sweep that melted into a large formed wave and smooth loops, the elegant old Hollywood look is captured. A Birdcage Veil.com Hair piece in black feathers was added to tie it all in. For her makeup, it was soft opulence and monochromatic warm colors to match with the overall look. I prepped her skin with eye crème, moisturizer and primer first. Camera perfect foundation and concealer was next. The Bride has beautiful shaped eyes so I wanted to really focus on those. I did a combination of gold shimmer and chocolate brown eye shadows and to bring a retro touch, a sweep of heavy chocolate mixed with black eyeliner from inner corner to just beyond her lash line to give a cat eye look. I also added in faux eyelash additions to make her eyes pop. To really make an over-the-top impact, use real 24K gold eye shadow for that wow factor. To finish her look, warm peach crème blush first and then powder bronzer to her cheekbones, forehead and jaw. Her lips were a warm peach liner with clear gloss over the top. Mineralized Skin finish powder was used with a big fluffy brush to set everything in place and make her skin glow. All MAC Cosmetics was used to create this look.
