Marshmallow Backdrop DIY
Here is a fun, quick, and cute DIY idea for your upcoming South Dakota wedding! Appropriate for an affair during any season, this giant marshmallow garland backdrop would be great behind a hot chocolate table OR a s’more bar! I LOVE the smell of marshmallows – don’t you? It’s totally customizable and will only take you about an hour to make.My recommendation? Save this project for a last minute craft day with your honey – the mallows will harden and shrink slightly the longer they are kept out.
1-2 bags of giant marshmallows (I found mine at Walmart)
Jute or baker’s twine
Large plastic embroidery needle (Available at any craft store)
Paper, fabric, pinecones, photos, etc. for customizing
You’ll start by determining your pattern. Will you use only marshmallows? Or perhaps you’ll alternate marshmallows, pine cones and fabric knots, which is what I’ll show you today. There is no wrong way to do this, simply choose what best fits you and the style of your wedding!
Next, decide how full your want your backdrop (as in, how many separate strands) and how long. Once you’ve decided that, cut your twine into strands, adding some extra to the total length you want.
Once you’ve determined the pattern, thread your needle and start stringing! I strung the marshmallows and tied the pine cones first, and went back and added the fabric knots at the end.
When you’ve finished all the strands, there are a few ways to hold them together. You can hang them from a piece of driftwood, tie them to another piece of fabric or twine, or simply hang from the ceiling or wall.
Voila! You’re finished and you have a fun backdrop to add to your beautiful day.Enjoy!
